new discovery: artist genevieve griffiths
scrolling furiously through instagram seems to take up far too much time in my day. often, i can't tell you what i looked at from one overly-curated account to the next. pumpkins probably. so when i saw the vibrant work of new zealand artist genevieve griffiths, i was stopped in my tracks and had to find out more.
genevieve describes herself as an architect/ weaver/ mum and this combination of roles is certainly evident in her work. the shapes she mixes together in her weaves are definitely architectural and she has the playfulness of a fun mum. her concern is over texture; slubby wools next to finer threads add to the intricacy of her designs. i love that no area of the design is left unloved and i especially love seeing the complexity of the back of the weave. images copyright genevieve griffiths x jo
